Dear John,

Having gorgeous photographs of our wedding was in the top 3 most important things to us for our wedding. Looking at a lot of "professional photography" of other weddings made me a bit nervous to choose a photographer. Quite often I felt that the quality and artistic involvement in these pictures were mediocre at best.... I have high standards, and didn't want to settle for a photographer that produced awkward and generic results.

Cary (my husband) told me about a photographer he knew and we checked out his website. I was already sold. I could see that Majesty Photo went places that most photographers never even attempt to. There's not just an artistic quality to the shots, but there's actually a display of excitement that goes into the work.

We did an engagement shoot with John Vandervalk and Shanthi of Majesty Photo, and it was an incredibly fun experience. They took extra time and care into getting us great pictures, even to the lengths of standing inside of a fountain to get the shot! All shots felt comfortable, and we were never asked to "stand over there and smile!". We were allowed to be natural and display our love however it was that we wanted to.

At our wedding, John and Shanthi were helpful, fun, collected, and knew when to take the lead and when to let us just be in-love and capture it accordingly. They helped to make our wedding day that much more special, and I'm overjoyed with the entire experience and results of their hard work. The HDR photos are beyond gorgeous, and some of my favorite pictures are ones that I didn't even realize they were capturing! Our memories are now visible treasures.

Majesty Photo surpassed my expectations by demonstrating their professionalism, passion, talent, and love of Christ throughout every moment of our time with them. We're certainly planning on using Majesty Photo in the future for gorgeous photographs of our family. I first learned of Majesty Photo and met John when I was the best man at a friend's wedding. I thought he did well, though, at the time I wasn't really concerned about photography for the event. After, however, when I saw the pictures, I was pretty impressed with what he had pulled off for their wedding and decided to keep him in mind … you know, just in case. Well, as it turned out, that “just in case” factor came up, and I found myself engaged to the love of my life and high school sweetheart.

Photography was really important to us both (I am an artist and very amateur photographer), and we knew we wanted a good display of our engagement and wedding for the years to come, and we DEFINITELY wanted someone who knew their art well enough to capture the best moments for our memories. John and I had kept in touch because he frequented my family's business, and based upon my friend's wedding and the photos on his site, I knew for sure he was the right guy for the job. Not only is he a great photographer, but he's skilled at a multitude of different approaches to his art; be it artistic shots, fun shots, classic, traditional, contemporary, etc. and he doesn't do just weddings, he does landscapes and X Games shots (needless to say, he knows a bit more than the average studio for photography). My personal favorites are his HDR shots, and in all honesty, my whole wedding could have been in HDR for my taste.

Anyway, look at his work … it speaks for itself. Being great at photography was definitely paramount, but John and his assistant Shanthi are amazing people on top of that. My wife and I had an engagement shoot (I highly recommend it) as well as our wedding, and during both events, John and Shanthi did everything we wanted of them and more. They made both events fun for us, they respected our wishes, listened to our requests, and even did it all with smiles and full disclosure of how they thought it should go down. They were amazing at getting the shots we wanted, and were even graceful enough to never be in the way. On top of all that, they dealt with our families kindly and professionally (even though for us there were some issues with our families trying to boss them around)!

In all honesty, for what we were looking for, Majesty Photo exceeded our expectations. Photos were amazing, and they were great people to work with on our hopes and expectations! I definitely will refer them to anyone looking for great photography, and I'm sure I'll have their number saved to my phone (yes, literally – I still do) for time to come for anytime we need some more great pictures that totally capture the memories we want to save. Thank you John and Shanthi! You both were amazing!

Your wedding day, one of the most exciting and nerve-racking days of your life. You plan for months, even years for this special day. You pick out the colors, flavors, flowers , and you picture exactly how you want to look. You tell yourself over and over again that you are going to savor every second of your special day... But when the day actually comes, it is like a whirlwind. I was told it was going to fly by but I had no idea how fast it would go.

Since I planned for the day to go by quickly I chose some of the very best people to help me; people that I could count on. The moment I met John I knew that I could count on him. Just meeting him I knew that I could rely on him to deliver some fantastic photos of my wedding. However, it was several weeks later until my husband and I really saw the magic of what John has to offer. The quality and variety of different shots were incredible! John blessed us with all the pictures I wanted and many that I did not even realize I wanted.

My husband and I agree that one of the most special times we had at the wedding was when we were alone with the photographers. We had so much fun with them! Not to mention that they made us feel comfortable and natural. The time we spent taking photos with John was very special us because it gave us a great opportunity to relax and unwind after the ceremony, and before heading to the reception. We were able to reconnect with each instead of fluttering around from one activity to the next. John and Shanthi were absolutely fabulous to work with!

I don’t know how much money you plan on spending on your wedding but I want to tell you that at the end of the day your cake is eaten, your flowers are looking a bit wilted already, and your bridesmaids have taken off their dresses, but your pictures will be with you forever and ever. They will remind you of how nervous your husband looked while you were walking down the aisle towards him. They will remind you of the last time you danced with your grandfather. If you have a great memory you might remember half of the little details of your special day, but flipping through the hundreds of exquisite photos John took for us brings back nearly every special moment of the day. Thanks to Majesty Photo we have several albums of beautiful pictures to remind me of that special day for the rest of our lives! Thanks John!

First I wanted to tell you how absolutely beautiful the wedding photos of Ashley & Chris are. There were shots during the actual Mass that Ashley and I didn't even know you were taking. And some where we both thought "where was he when he took that? How did he get that shot?!" The different angles, the candids, the way you tried to show the enormity of the church's interior ... and the fact that you took the time to get photos of just the priest and the musicians, etc., ... its all wonderful!
